I was fortunate enough to be invited recently to the American Gem Trade Association Spectrum Awards Editors event. This event which was by invite only, was an opportunity for writers, bloggers and editors in the jewelry space to view over 500 incredible jewelry and gemstone entries. The event was held in a magnificent loft space in downtown manhattan on a perfect sunny day.
For a jewelry enthusiast such as myself it was like going to heaven. Table after table of exquisite gems and jewels, I could have spent a whole lot more time than the 2 hours I did, photographing and trying on such incredible jewelry.
What I noticed was that gemstone jewelry is hot, hot, hot. I also took note of the craftsmanship which overall, was something to be astounded by.
One of the trends I noticed was the statement necklace. These were no sedate pendants on display, but bold, dramatic chokers, pendants and neck pieces that are most definitely not for the faint of heart.
I was absolutely in love with this silver and amethyst star pendant. It’s heavy weight and bold design were definitely what caught my eye, and while I’m not usually a white metal girl, I really liked how it worked for this piece.
The most dramatic necklace I tried on was this blue topaz piece de resistance. I really felt ready for my oscar moment in this baby.
For a more subtle take this multi colored sapphire necklace was spectacular and not too large as to feel overwhelming.
There were a lot more beautiful pieces that I was fortunate enough to play with, so stay tuned or sign up to get it in your inbox and never miss any of the gem therapy!
