A friend recently messaged me and wanted to know more about resetting her engagement ring. She had gotten married over a decade ago, and was no longer happy with the look of her ring. She was looking to keep her center stone and just give the ring a facelift.

My advice was the following; Go where you started. If you bought the ring from someone and it wasn’t handed down, contact them. Oftentimes they will buy back the setting from you, and give you the purchase price towards a new setting. This works if you want something standard, and not a custom piece.

When you want something new and improved that’s uniquely yours, that’s when a jewelry designer is needed. A jewelry designer can take your existing stone and make you a custom creation, that is thoroughly and uniquely you.

An interesting service that offers this is one that Gemvara recently introduced. You can send them your old ring and they can then help you redesign it.

Do you love your engagement ring or are you kind of tired of it? Would you consider resetting yours or do you consider it untouchable? Let me know in the comments below. I love to hear from all of you lovely readers.
